Grinding grain with something other than stone, was un-heard-of. The millstones were a familiar and trusted device. When roller mills first appeared, the traditional millers never believed that the roller mills could ever replace the millstone as the prime flour milling device.
Impact-chamber grain mills like the Nutrimill and Wonder Mill are best for grinding fine grades of flour but have less grinding range than burr grain mill models like the Country Living Grain Mill. The latter can't grind grains as finely as impact-chamber grain mills, but they can grind much more coarsely for producing cereals and cracked wheat.
